So You Want to Write a Book

A morning for anyone with a story, a message or a manuscript.

Your book is needed.

If a book has been stirring in you for years, it isn't an accident. Somewhere there's a reader who needs exactly what you carry: the hope in your story, the help in your message, the courage in what you've lived through. Every year it stays in your head is another year they go without it.

Most people who never finish a book aren't stopped by a lack of talent or time. They're stopped because they never quite believed the book was needed. This morning starts there. Then we give you the plan, the tools and the honest numbers to get it out of your head and onto the page, where it can start doing what it was meant to do.

What you'll walk away with

You'll fill in a one-page Book Plan as we go. By noon, every box is done:

  • Who is waiting for your book, and what changes for them when they read it
  • Your book in one sentence
  • Where your book really stands, and what it still needs
  • Your path: doing it yourself, getting some help, or getting a lot of help
  • Your budget and your timeline
  • Your next three steps, each with a date

Plus: your biggest roadblock and your answer to it; your own opening line, rewritten to pull a reader in; and a checklist of five questions to ask before you sign anything with anyone.

How the morning runs

  • Why your book matters. Who is waiting for your book, and what changes for them when they read it.
  • What you need to know. The road from idea to readers' hands; three keys to writing that holds a reader; your publishing paths, honestly compared; and what it really costs and how long it really takes.
  • Building your plan. With help at your elbow: your book in one sentence, where it stands, your opening line rewritten, your path, budget and timeline, and three dated next steps.
  • Getting past what's stopped you. Time, fear, "who am I to write this": we name your roadblock and answer it.

This is for you if...

  • You've always meant to write a book, or you've started one.
  • You have a finished draft and don't know what comes next.
  • You have a message, a testimony or a life story you want in print.
  • You want straight answers about cost and publishing before you spend a dollar.

Probably not for you if...

You've already published several books on your own. You know most of this already; look at Hundredfold Author Services or our tools for authors instead.

Our promise to you

If you don't leave with your book underway and a clear road to finish it, we'll refund your $27. And if you later hire us for any service within 90 days, your $27 comes off the price.

Questions

Do I need to have written anything yet?

No. Many people come with nothing but an idea. You'll leave with it underway and knowing exactly what comes next.

What should I bring?

A pen. If you've written anything, bring your first page (on paper or on your phone). A laptop is welcome but not needed.

Is this about Christian books only?

No. Suzanne is a Christian minister and Hundredfold Books publishes clean fiction and Christian books, but the workshop is open to anyone writing anything clean: novels, memoir, family history, devotionals, how-to.

Will you try to sell me something?

We'll take two minutes at the very end to tell you how we can help, and there's a page in the workbook. That's all. The morning is about your plan.

What if I can't come after all?

Up to 48 hours before, you can have a refund or move your seat to the next date. After that, your seat moves to the next date.

Will there be an online version?

Yes, later. Join the waiting list below and we'll tell you when it opens.
